Leslie Peter Wulff '70 Annual Scholarship for Excellence in Fiction Writing

The Leslie Peter Wulff ’70 Annual Scholarship for Excellence in Fiction Writing was created to support and encourage SUNY New Paltz Creative Writing students with with a non-tuition scholarship. Recipients will be full-time, matriculated undergraduate students in good standing who are majoring in English with a minor or concentration in Creative Writing. Qualified applicants must be rising juniors or seniors, with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Strong preference will be given to students whose interest is in fiction writing, including science fiction, and whose work encompasses themes of social justice, equity, inclusivity, or similar concerns for social well-being of the individual and society. The scholarship recipient will have demonstrated strong creative potential. Financial need will also be taken into consideration but is not a requirement for the award.

All my life, I loved Musicals

I was never a propper theatre kid, probably aspiring for a while -becuase alot of my gay ass friends at the time, going to laqyaurdia high school and frank atantra where i spent a summer before high school in 2017 on art shcolarship -were super threatre kids who went to school with or arround people who now I see getting full blwn acting a threare careers coming up from that very scene -sure I dont think I ever had the chops to be a true actor, or singer though still would love to get back into it someday, but dispite my lack of tallent and general prepoecivity to feel profoundly out of place at any club I was in-I deienfity gravited towards the tehatre kids –maybe it was their artistic diaries, striving to be best at their craft, to get lost in story or chahrchter I can cenetrity say -back when I was a little eggboi, I enjoyed playing male chahrhcters in evry play I was in- from elelmetry school through highschool, from lazier wolf in folder, to MR Hack in oklahoma to prince Chula in the lion king, to much smaller male parts I took on with pride like guard 2 in the lion king, the pawnbroker in a christmas carrol and more but you know what they awlays say in the theare -no part is a small part -or thast just what they used to say to make us –feel better but as a kid you were all but gardtuined some part unlike college where –you have to audition like your life depends on it even to play a pile of leaves -it was arround then I realized I best stick to drawing cartoons, writing books about rock n roll and being a general freak about town as im best at —in a sosoicty where being good at only one thing is assumed (unlike the greeks who were almost all polymaths and would gawk at our single tallent, markeble late cpastsist scoicty today where if you dont have the time discipline and disire to study, learn an art form a skill you arent inherently gifted at -dont bother, you best stck to what your good at–so you can go to college have infinite student load debt and nevr be able to get a real job with your zero work or life experience aside from geeking out, childhood trauma and…being an internet veteran –so you might as well neve try anything new if you cant make any money off it espcially if your an artist even if you enjoy making art, and it make syou and others happy if your noyt good like hyper gifted at that arsttsic diecpiline you are cringe, taking up spaaaace other pepole desrve and should just stick to being sad and idozl worshiping like you desve and accept youll never have a chance in the spotlight –and how your…detsined to —be a critic not an artist, because ernestity and senseirty are overrated –being a soulless unfeeling, judgmental -socally manipulative and inaehetic void of a forever wage slave is—totally in nowdays you guyssssss why sing about your feelings when you can just go to therapy and get the fuck out of my face, I live in a masnion and never have to see anyone with emotions ever again inducing my wife and kids—)

like eryone else or something I donno, Sontime probably wrote a song about it  –but I dont just like musicals I like alot of things because I think people get the impression from people who say they like musicals that they ONLY like musicals and that, for me at least, just couldnt be fetehr from the truth:

I genuinely dont care and i dont think ever cared what anyone thinks I love alot of things, like gus van sant movies, oscar wilde (escially oscar wilde) poetry, raomce, writing poltical cartoons and satire, hot guys with mustaches, and long hair, and leather jackets, deep throifhts, rich minds, free sprits and who smile often, I like shitty gay rom coms on tubi, doing stupud things with my friends in wahsion square park, glam rock, pickle chips, the concept of neil patrick harris, oral sex, higher education, metphors, butterlfies, frogs, meetdor showers, happiny ever afters, time travel, fried foods, english accenets -geeky tech, soicsism, disocunst at the thrift store, parmesan cheese, talking for hours with random people on the internet about living with a very fun and also confusing, stressful metal situation, autism adhd, CPTSD and anixty are some crazy complex friends you cant get rid of who make my life a nevr ending clown show of confusion, and hours listsng to lou reed on my college quad cmcplating my place in the world but not for too long or ill—metopshsically -self combust, -but having the fractured perspectve of a man with far to much and also never enough going on upstairs is like a fars that no one else sees, and the joke is always at your experience -and its never really that funny though you often wish it was –I also like stand up comedy, gay sex, new queer cimmea being correct, being the best at being transgender, dandysim, amercian cheese, london, good worldbuilding, improv, the circus, renensiane fairs, rap battles, high heels, inevnetions, magic 8 balls, dr pepepr, woodstock, magic, civil rights, and mushroom estroritio –

So clearly musicals are not the only thing I like or ever have like
